Has anyone tried to get a drivers license since October 1?
I don’t know if it is just New Mexico, but the requirements have changed radically . This is what I faced when getting a driver’s permit for my 15 year old child.
For your ID–A passport and birth certificate are not adequate,
You must have your SS card, or last year’s tax return, other years will not do.
To prove state residency—2 items required, bank statement, utility bill, mortgage document, vehicle registration, or enrollment documentation from school.
Proof of my residency status, 2 bills with my physical address.
Sworn statement by me that she is my child and lives with me.
Proof from the school that the child is taking Driver’s ed, in the form of a recipt for payment of the 300.00 that drivers ed now costs.
I have had to take my 15 year old child out of school twice, and I still havn’t gotten her permit. None of this is made common knowledge, and you have to keep going back.
Does anyone else think that enough is enough?
To Jerry C–That is a good question. I have no idea how they get around that, unless the kids are on medicaid, that card also qualifies as an ID.
